Proven strength
Testing by Swinburne University of Technology has demonstrated the superior anchoring performance of Conbextra EP10 and Conbextra EP65 Plus.
Both products were subjected to pull-out tests of bonded anchors in concrete. According to Fosroc's Product Segment Specialist – Repairs & Grouts, Hamid Khan, the results were impressive.
"Testing showed that Conbextra EP65 Plus achieved a pull-out strength of over 300kN after only one day of curing," he says. "Being able to withstand that level of force after a single day of curing is a huge advantage for applicators who are under time pressure."
After three days, the pull-out strength increased to 340 kN, at which point, Hamid notes, the 24mm thick Grade 8.8 steel bar actually snapped.
Results for Conbextra EP10 were also impressive. Testing showed the grout could tolerate a force of over 50kN after only 3 days of cure time.
Super strength in action
Conbextra EP10 and Conbextra EP65 Plus are used for many grouting applications, however their strength makes them particularly well suited to anchoring applications such as:
- Grouting vertical starter bars for walls between concrete pours
- Anchoring roadside barriers
- Anchoring pallet racking and other frame structures
- Grouting in bolts as part of the installation of large machine baseplates, prior to the subsequent grouting of the baseplate
While strength is critical, Hamid emphasises that effective grouting and anchoring relies on more than strength alone.
"The flow and workability of Fosroc’s Conbextra range enables applicators to achieve the best possible contact," he explains. "Achieving consistent spread and coverage ensures strength is provided exactly where it's needed," he says.
